I ventured outside with a flash and gels twice today: once a little after 5 pm, and later, after dark. By then, the snow was coming down magically. The first foray gave me a little practice and a few ideas to try later. Ironically, I used a lens with automatic focus when there was plenty of daylight, but chose a manual focus Lensbaby Velvet 56 for the dark. Lesson learned: it’s hard to focus on something you can barely see.
