Fifteen two,
Fifteen four,
And eight is twelve.

The board sits between us,
Keeping score.

Fifteen two,
Six is eight,
And the right Jack is nine.

You move your pegs: First Street,
Second Street.

Fifteen two,
And five for my flush—
That’s seven.

It’s like the early years
Of our marriage:

Fifteen two,
Fifteen four,
Plus ten is fourteen.

When I kept track — each slight
Remembered.

Fifteen two,
Fifteen four,
And four is eight.

Now, it doesn’t matter.
We both win.
